The Mortal Instruments: Book versus Movie

For those of you readers, both young adult and otherwise, you may have heard of the YAL series, The Mortal Instruments, by Cassandra Clare.  The first book of the series, The City of Bones, has just been released on film in movie theatres worldwide.  This turns to the never-ending debate of books versus their movie counterparts–which one is better?  Do film versions ultimately ruin novels, or add to their appeal and understanding?  As Clare states during her interview, which can be read through the link below:  “You’re always worried, ‘Is the movie going to stay true to the book?’ But they should remember it’s an interpretation of the books, and I want every reader to feel that their interpretation is the true interpretation.'”  This debate may be infinite, but only you, as both a reader and film-viewer, can make the decision yourself.
